Covid-19 update – Active Lichfield and Beacon Park events

In response to coronavirus, we have put our Active Lichfield and Getin2it sessions on hold and have cancelled or postponed our upcoming Beacon Park events and activities.

We encouraging social distancing

Councillor Liz Little, Cabinet Member for Recycling & Leisure, said:

“Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, with regret we have decided to temporarily put all of our Active Lichfield and Getin2it sessions on hold for the time being. This includes activities such as walking cricket, boxing, multi sports and more. Our monthly Active Lichfield cycle rides, which were set to start later this month, will also not be running until further notice.

“Beacon Park is still open for everyone to enjoy walks, exercise and the outdoors through this difficult period. However, we are cancelling a number of our events that were set to take place to encourage social distancing. This includes the Mother’s Day Flower Making workshop this Saturday (21 March), the Easter trail, Carrot Day and our Wellbeing Wonder Wander session. We are also temporarily putting our weekly and monthly sessions on hold, including our health walks, Countryside & Parks Conservation Group activities, and our Neaten & Natter and Event Volunteer sessions.

“There are a number of events and activities that were due to take place in Beacon Park, which are organised by others, that we understand have also been put on hold, such as the weekly Beacon Parkrun, the Cathedral to Castle Run and Lichfield Greenhill Bower. Please check the individual organiser’s website for more details.

“We are sorry for any disappointment caused, but the safety of our participants and staff is our main priority. We are continuing to encourage everyone to follow Public Health England and NHS guidance and will be reviewing future events as the situation progresses.

“It’s important that we all keep active for our health and wellbeing. You can still go outside for a walk, run, cycle – or any other way you normally get active outside – provided you are doing so in a way that meets the latest guidance on social distancing and advice on unnecessary social contact.”

Please note, we have also temporarily closed Beacon Park’s Ranger Station meaning our pay for play activities, including the golf course, are unavailable. Thank you for bearing with us.
