Halloween-themed fun this autumn half term

Autumn half term fun

From a spooky trail and dodgeball, to a Halloween fancy dress themed UV sports activity and tennis sessions, there is lots on offer for children and teens this half term.

Lichfield District Council has launched its autumn half term holiday programme that is packed with Halloween themed treats and lots of active sessions to keep boredom at bay.

The council’s Getin2it sessions for young people aged from 7 to 25 will run over the half term week and include dodgeball, dance, plus boxing, multi sports, tennis and trampolining sessions. Most activities cost just £1 and do not need to be booked.

A highlight of the week are the Halloween fancy dress themed UV sport and Glow Active sessions at Burntwood Leisure Centre on Tuesday 29 October. Costing £2 a session, it includes a wide range of sports all in glow in the dark surroundings and in spooky costumes! The first session, from 2pm to 3.30pm, is for 7 to 11 year olds and the second session, from 3.30pm to 5pm, is for 12 to 16 year olds.

Over at Beacon Park, families can follow a Halloween puzzle trail every day from 19 October to 3 November. There are two sets of clues, one for little ones and slightly harder clues for older children. Trails are available from the Ranger Station between 10am and 3pm for £1 each.

In the lead up to half term, Beacon Park is also running a Mini Mummy workshop on Saturday 19 October where children aged 5+ can make a posable mini mummy out of pipe cleaners for £1 per mummy. This drop-in workshop is taking place in the park’s Discovery Hub, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Councillor Liz Little, Cabinet Member for Recycling & Leisure, said: “We’ve got plenty of treats on offer for children and young people this autumn half term. It can be difficult to get young people away from their screens, so having a go at our Getin2it sessions in Lichfield and Burntwood, or having a go Beacon Park’s Halloween trail, is a good way to get them out of the house and engaged in positive activities.”
