Excitement is mounting as Beacon Park in Lichfield gets ready to host two drive-in movies this spring.
Lichfield District Council’s parks team is busy working behind the scenes in preparation of showing two blockbusters at Beacon Park this May.
Movie lovers are in for a treat as the cult British comedy, The Italian Job (1969 version) will be screened at Beacon Park on Saturday 12 May and then the much loved film Dirty Dancing will play on Saturday 19 May.
The films will be shown to people in their cars on a giant inflatable screen, and movie-goers simply need to tune their vehicle radios in to hear the soundtrack.
There will also be a reserved area in front of the cars for on foot ticket holders to bring along chairs and enjoy the film outside. Lakeside Bistro will also be offering a selection of movie meals and cinema snacks throughout the event.
Gates will open at 12noon to allow audience members to park up and enjoy all that Beacon Park and Lichfield has to offer. Both films will then start at around 9.15pm.
Councillor Iain Eadie, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “Time is running out to make sure you have booked your tickets to The Italian Job and Dirty Dancing.
“We picked films that we know have huge fan bases, and we expect our drive-ins to be great fun, with people getting into the spirit of both movies.
“So, if you love car chases with minis and Italian scenery, as well as great dancing, watermelons and lines, including ‘Nobody puts Baby in the corner,’ then our Drive-in Movies at Beacon Park will be right up your street!”
Entry to the drive-ins is by pre-booked ticket only. It costs £25 a car per movie and £5 for on foot customers, with the option of hiring a headset.
The Italian Job is certificate PG and Dirty Dancing is certificate 15.
