Lichfield District Council is backing Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean, and encouraging local people to take part in a community clean-up.
It’s not too late to get involved in the nation’s biggest tidy-up, the Great British Spring Clean, organised by Keep Britain Tidy.
Over the weekend of 2 to 4 March, you can join thousands of others taking part and help clear up local litter or plan your own local community clean-up and invite your friends and neighbours to get involved.
Whether you’re planning to go at it alone, or join in with one of the hundreds of organised events across the country, register at www.keepbritaintidy.org for the Great British Spring Clean and make a difference.
Chris Cook, Head of Leisure & Operational Services for Lichfield District Council, said: “We do our best to collect the rubbish from across the district, but there may well be a litter hotspot that we haven’t got to yet and so organising or taking part in a community clean-up is a great way to help us to keep the district clean.
“The best way of course is not to drop litter in the first place, so I’d like to take the opportunity to urge everyone to always use the bins provided and recycle where you can. Thank you to everyone taking time out to join in a community litter pick – you are all heroes!”
The council is hosting its own spring clean of the woodland areas of Beacon Park and Stowe Fields on Friday 2 March between 10am and 12noon*. All the equipment to take part will be provided. The group will meet at 10am at Beacon Park’s Ranger Station.
To confirm your place on the litter pick, please call Ruth Piddington on 01543 308869 or email parks@lichfielddc.gov.uk.
Beacon Park is also a distribution point for the Great British Spring Clean bin bags, so if you need any for your clean up, head to the Ranger Station in the park nearer the time to collect a bundle for free.
Clean-up organisers can also contact Lichfield District Council’s street cleansing team in advance, to arrange for the filled bags to be collected, by calling 01543 308999.

*Unfortunately we had to cancel this litter pick due to the snowy weather, but we have now rearranged the date and it will take place at Beacon Park on Friday 9 March from 10am to 12noon. If you would like to join us, please call Ruth on 01543 308869. Thanks.
