Lichfield District Council is pleased to launch its Summer Holiday Fun programme – a guide to summer holiday activities across Lichfield District.

Schools will be breaking up soon for the long summer break, and the council has a packed programme of activities to keep children and teenagers busy.

Burntwood Leisure Centre and Friary Grange Leisure Centre are running plenty of summer holiday activities and sport courses. From boot camps, gymnastics, trampoline, tennis, dance and swimming courses, to running and sport camps and rookie lifeguarding courses, there is a lot to choose from.

Young people can enjoy fun in the pool with the giant inflatable and floats sessions as well as Finding Dory Family Fun pool sessions at both leisure centres.

Friary Grange and Burntwood will also be offering ‘Footy for a Fiver’ and ‘Court Savers’, which allows children to play on a section of a synthetic football pitch for £5 and the hire of racquet courts for a reduced price. Terms and conditions apply.

Beacon Park is involved in the fun and is holding bug hunt and pond dip days, as well as Xplorer orienteering challenges and fairy walks this summer.

Families are also invited to put a date in the diary for Beacon Park’s Fun Day and Teddy Bear Games, taking place on Wednesday 10 August between 11am and 3pm. Entry is free and the day features games, rides, inflatables and stalls. Children can also bring along their teddy bears and compete in races, such as the ‘ted on the head’, to win prizes.

This year the council is launching a Holiday Pass that gives 11 to 17 year olds access to activities at its leisure centres and Beacon Park for £20. The six-week pass includes street cheer, boxing, free running, golf, tennis, swimming and court sports. This can be bought from Friary Grange or Burntwood leisure centres or Beacon Park.

Councillor Andy Smith, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure & Parks, said: “Our new Holiday Pass is a great way for young people on a budget to say active over the holidays.

“We’ve got a packed programme of activities, and our courses book up early, so we’re reminding families to make sure they reserve their children’s places as soon as possible.

“We also offer early bird prices on selected holiday courses at Burntwood and Friary Grange leisure centres, which are available until 11 July, so it really does pay to book early.”
